Heritable makes last payment
Icelandic bank Heritable has made another payment to UK authorities. The dividend of 16.73p in the pound takes Heritable’s overall payment to 94% and is the last payment the bank will make.

Leicestershire invests in broadband
Leicestershire County Council has signed a £16.9m broadband deal with BT. The council is investing £4.1m, BT £8.3m, the government’s BDUK fund £3.3m and the EU £1.23m. The council says that faster internet will give a £92m boost to its economy over the next seven years.

Better data sharing needed with public health: Localis
Think tank Localis has called for better data sharing between councils and their new public health colleagues. In its report into the transfer of £2.7bn of public health funding from the NHS to local government Localis found that confusion over data sharing was a “significant barrier to integration”. The report also suggested that the Minister for Public Health position becomes a joint Department of Health and Cabinet Office positions. The change would, it said, help integration across departments.

New pension funds data service
Governance research company PIRC has joined forces with analysis house Inalytics to provide a new service for pension funds. Manager performance and governance risk in funds are analysed at the same time, allowing funds to see their portfolios’ profiles in terms of companies’ corporate governance and the ability of their managers to meet targets.

Lights out for Colchester
Essex County Council is hoping to continue with its savings plan by turning out over night lights in Colchester from November 1. The council estimates that £14m could be saved by the switch off, from 12-5am every night.
