Birmingham in payment spat with contractor
0A row has exploded between Birmingham City Council and contractor Amey over payments under a PFI roads contract.
In June, Amey was ordered to refund £54m to the council after an adjudicator ruled it had not carried out road maintenance that it was obliged to.
However, a report that went to councillors in Birmingham last week said that Amey has failed to pay the money, as well as interest.
The report said: “We consider that Amey LG in particular has demonstrated that they cannot be relied upon to substantively and transparently deliver the requirements of previous settlements.”
However, in a statement, the firm said: “Amey strongly refutes the claims put forward in this paper and notes that it contains a number of material errors and inaccuracies.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, Amey LG Ltd (Amey LG) continues to deliver a high-quality service in Birmingham, while we try to engage with all of the project stakeholders to resolve this longstanding and complex dispute.”
