Council tax bills set to rise to fund police
0Ministers have provisionally agreed to allow local authorities to double the precept for police services from April 2019, according to Sky News.
The TV channel said that home secretary Sajid Javid has persuaded communities secretary James Brokenshire and chancellor Philp Hammond to increase the precept from £1 a month to £2 a month, raising up to £450m a year.
It is believed the Home Office and Treasury could also commit around another £170m to general police funding.
