Durham Tees Valley Airport set to be voted through today
0Mayor Ben Houchen’s proposal to buy Durham Tees Valley Airport for £40m should be given the go-ahead today at a meeting of the five Tees Valley council leaders.
Houchen needs the unanimous support of the local authorities to get his plan approved.
According to TeesideLive all five council leaders had swung behind the plan by Tuesday.
These include Cllr Sue Jeffrey of Redcar and Cleveland Council who had been an outspoken critic.
The proposal to buy the airport was prompted by owner Peel Group saying that its future is uncertain.
The plan has gained support for supporting local employment and growth prospects, but drawn criticism over the generally poor economics of small airports in the UK.
