Government announces rates relief mechanism
0Councils will be reimbursed for a discount on business rates announced in the 2018 budget through grant relief, the government has announced.
Chancellor Philip Hammond announced in October that businesses in premises with a rateable value of less than £51,000 will receive a third off their bill in 2019/20 and 2020/21.
The government will compensate councils for lost income through discretionary relief powers introduced by the Localism Act.
It said councils will be asked to provide estimates of their costs under the scheme, as well as outturn data on the actual costs.
