Great Places, the affordable and social housing provider in the North West, and Manchester Life Development Company have confirmed a co-operation agreement to speed up the construction of affordable housing and to work together on a 10-year residential master planning exercise.

Manchester Life  is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi United Group, the owner of Manchester City Football Club, and Manchester City Council.

Begun in 2014 to restart the regeneration of the Ancoats and New Islington areas of the city, it is a residential development company.

The co-operation agreement aims to accelerate the progress on already identified sites and to serve as a platform to bring together investors and developers to construct a range of affordable housing on new sites over the next decade.

The joint planning exercise aims to ensure that future residential development frameworks include a range of  affordable housing, in terms of both tenure and type of housing.

Matthew Harrison, chief executive for Great Places, said: “Great Places is one of the leading housing associations in the North West, and we are committed to being a major provider of affordable and social housing within Greater Manchester over the next 10 years.

“Effective partnerships are central to affordable housing delivery in today’s complex operating environment, so we are very pleased to be collaborating with Manchester Life given their track record of mobilising quickly and at scale to make a positive impact across a whole neighbourhood.”
