Liverpool’s Festival Gardens gets cash injection
0Liverpool City Council has been granted £9.9m to carry out remediation work on the Festival Gardens site on the Mersey from the government’s £450m Local Authority Accelerated Construction programme, run by Homes England.
The council has intended to redevelop the site for a number of years, but a lack of funding meant that the crucial clearance work was not undertaken.
The way is now open to for activity on the site to begin, with the first of up to 1,500 family homes to due for completion by 2022.
The project will consist of owner-occupied houses and privately rented flats, sitting alongside leisure facilities and a new ferry terminal.
Homes England has opened new offices in the same building as Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in order to help the two bodies work together to get the homes built.

“Festival Gardens is a much-loved waterfront location and people have very fond memories of spending time there.
“We are fully aware of the potential the Festival Gardens has and its transformation will be a game-changer for this city’s economy in terms of new homes, construction jobs and growth.”
