London councils pay millions to Right to Buy landlords
0Councils in London are paying £22.3m a year to private landlords who have acquired local authority properties through Right to Buy, according to new analysis.
London Assembly member Tom Copley this week published a report that showed there are 2,333 properties where the local authority pays private landlords to house homeless families.
Of these, 808 are in London Borough of Newham alone.
In order to meet need, councils have bought back 1,630 homes they had previously owned, some as part of wider estate regeneration projects.
