Newham looks to provide 2,000 affordable homes
0London Borough of Newham has unveiled plans to provide 2,000 affordable homes on sites in its ownership.
The proposals have been drawn up by the authority in conjunction with a bid to the Greater London Authority for up to £150m of affordable housing grant along with a strategy to recycle up to £62m of receipts from the Right to Buy programme.
A council report agreed this week said: “If successful, these bids would provide a significant and critical proportion of the funding required to achieving the Mayoral priority of delivering 1,000 new homes at social rents within the current term and to make a step change in tackling homelessness.”
The council says it has “high confidence” that 1,149 of the homes could start on site by 2022, with the remainder needing more work.
