Event Notice: IFS Briefing on School Funding Reform
0IFS Briefing: School funding reform: an empirical analysis of options for a national funding formula
10:00 – 12:00, 18 November 2011 (IFS, London)
Researchers from the Institute of Fiscal Studies will be hosting a briefing on 18 November where they will present the findings of a new report entitled ‘School funding reform: an empirical analysis of options for a national funding formula.’ This work has been supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
The Government intends to make significant reforms to the school funding system over the next few years. In particular, it is considering a single national funding formula for schools, which would leave local authorities with far less discretion than they have at present. While this would make school funding more
transparent and consistent across the country, it would also inevitably create winners and losers. In this report, we examine the different options for a national funding formula, and analyse their
potential impact on funding levels across different schools and areas of the country.
This report will be launched on at 10am on Friday 18 November, at the IFS offices, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE. Registration will take place from 9.30am. Places are free of charge.
