IBM takes Smarter Cities challenge to Birmingham
Birmingham City Council is for the next three weeks having its ways of working studied by IBM experts as part of the technology company’s Smarter Cities Challenge programme.
The programme will assist 33 cities this year, providing systems and processes analysis by IBM staff worth around £250,000. The process aims to help councils improve decision-making.
Sir Albert Bore, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “I am particularly looking forward to the opportunities this opens up to share knowledge and expertise with the other cities around the world that are also a part of this programme. We want to become a world-class city, and learning from others is a key step towards achieving this.”
Birmingham is the first English city to receive an IBM grant. Glasgow City Council received one in 2011.
