We’ve received some excellent entries but we’re moving the deadline to ensure those who want to can make their submissions.

The end of the financial year is a busy time for many of us and this year has been no exception (to say the least).

Many of you have told us you want to enter the the inaugural CCLA/Room151 Impact Awards but have run short of time. We’ve heard you.

So we’re giving you until Friday, May 21st to get your entries in.

The breadth and quality of submissions so far has our judges eagerly anticipating more of the same and we know you have a story to tell.

So far, we’ve seen entries covering everything from a brilliant homelessness strategy to a remarkable campaign to alleviate child food poverty.

We’ve read about an innovative approach to supporting foster care and numerous heroic stories about finance’s role in tackling Covid-19, including some outstanding support for schools and an overhaul of the strategy for dealing with customer enquiries.

Finance chiefs have been highlighting the work of their team of their teams on the pages of Room151.

Read about Coventry City Council’s boost for community leisure and Sutton‘s work on the London Cancer Hub here. Plymouth City Council’s creation of a school meals company and Newark and Sherwood’s support for business are detailed here.

Liverpool’s support for cafe culture and Warrington’s plan for homes are described here. Cheltenham’s work on a tech hub and Hackney’s reaction to a cyber attack are told here.

The finance function is making itself heard, and its impact felt, in so many different ways. Please take this opportunity to tell your story and help us highlight the work you do.

You can enter your work into any TWO of these categories. So each submission has two chances of victory. The categories include awards for work in adult social care, children’s services and education, place shaping, tackling Covid-19 and carbon management. Room151 and CCLA will also bring together entries in a Summary of Entries allowing finance officers to browse examples of best practice around the country.

Here’s what the judges are saying:

“Really looking forward to seeing a lot of examples of the great work that finance officers are doing in local government. Great opportunity to shine!”
Sanjiv Kohli, deputy chief executive, Newark & Sherwood District Council.

“I know there are lots of examples of great work by local government finance colleagues out there. So look forward to seeing lots of submissions.”
Mike O’Donnell, chief executive, London CIV.

The CCLA/151 Impact Awards are open until 21st May. Read about the categories and find the submissions process here.
