LGR savings picture clouded by government’s lack of own analysis

The potential savings – or costs – of local government reorganisation (LGR) have been questioned again after a BBC Freedom of Information (FOI) request showed that the government did not conduct its own analysis of the costs of its reorganisation policy.

Instead, the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) said it used a previous 2020 report by PwC, commissioned by the County Councils
