Harnessing technology, AI and data in the future of local government finance

Room151’s Technology, Data and Finance Forum, now in its second year, will be the place for important conversations about how technology and innovation can bring greater efficiency, reduced costs and improved service delivery at local authorities – and potentially lead to a complete redesign of services.

One of the key features of the conference is that it brings together finance directors, chief information officers, directors of transformation and key private sector partners to have these discussions, potentially leading to take-home insights.

A central theme of the event will be how to ensure you have the right mindset, focus and expectations when it comes to what new technologies can do – with AI particularly high on the national conversational agenda currently.

Eddie Copeland, director of the London Office of Technology & Innovation and keynote speaker at the Technology, Data and Finance Forum, recently told Room151 that he feared CFOs and technology and transformation leads were still having the “wrong conversation” about return on investment when it comes to innovating.

But, more positively, he has detected a real and recent “mood shift” in local government from a focus on looking to optimise existing services to thinking about building entirely different models, which could unlock more of the potential of digital technologies.

Whatever your stance, there is plenty to discuss. The Technology, Data and Finance Forum will take place at 1 America Square in in the heart of the City of London on 14 October. As well as a packed conference agenda, there will be exhibitors and networking opportunities throughout the day, with a drinks reception to finish.
