Thurrock’s £1.1bn debt and structural deficit prompts intervention extension

The government has said it is “minded” to extend its intervention at Thurrock Council until 2028, as the authority’s finances are expected to deteriorate over the medium term, with debt projected to reach over £1.1bn and ongoing reliance on Exceptional Financial Support (EFS).
